    Xeni Kusumitra works with oil colours, graphite and charcoal. Her works often depict nature or reflect silence and solitude. She is inspired by the works of Renaissance and Baroque masters. She attends a classical art school, hoping to become a church painter.

    In 2019, Kusumitra entered the Fisher’s Ghost Art Award, winning the Macability Award. She also won the John Olsen scholarship for 2020 at Julian Ashton Art School. In 2021, Kusumitra’s painting of Campbelltown Arts Centre director Michael Dagostino was a finalist in the Archibald Prize.

    2024 Somerset National Poetry Award

    Congratulations to Becky Silberstein who recently won the 2024 Somerset National Poetry Prize. Becky is 15 years old and won the 2024 Junior Category Award for her poem titled, UGLY Beauties.

    Below in an excerpt from UGLY Beauties:

    “There is a secret, guarded by artists, poets, musicians, and those alike.

    If you look hard enough, in the feather soft golden grove where ideas are born, Drowning in shimmering lakes of ruby blood, and buried beneath cages of bones, This unutterable whisper, that only exists amongst us”.

  • ART EXHIBITION FEATURING TWICE EXCEPTIONAL ARTISTS

    DAPA Inclusive Art Exhibition at NSW Parliament House

    The Differently Abled People Association Incorporated (DAPA) is proud to present its Multicultural Inclusive Art Exhibition at the NSW Parliament House Fountain Court, running from 3 June to 26 June 2025, open weekdays from 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM.

    The exhibition will be Celebrating Diversity, Neurodiversity, and Creativity Through Art. In line with DAPA’s mission to promote equal opportunities and meaningful inclusion for people living with disabilities, this exhibition showcases the remarkable talents of both differently abled and multicultural artists, demonstrating the power of art to bridge differences and amplify diverse voices.

    Featured artists include:

    ● Blatant Artist Bowman Yu –Sharing expressive depictions of Australian animals and people

    ● Autistic Savant Artist Ping Lian Yeak – Renowned for vibrant harbour scenes and intricate animal illustrations

    ● Janet Chuah (Malaysia), Masayo Colley (Japan) and Songshi Li 李松石 (China) – Multicultural artists contributing their unique perspectives

    Bowman and Ping Lian, both of whom have faced developmental challenges, use art as a profound and personal mode of communication. Their intuitive brushwork and rich colour palettes transcend conventional techniques offering raw, beautiful insight into how they view the world.

    DAPA extends heartfelt gratitude to Mr. Jordan Lane, Member for Ryde, for his support and advocacy in bringing visibility to the talents of artists with autism and disabilities. This initiative underscores the importance of inclusion and opportunity, fundamental keys to unlocking potential.

    We also acknowledge our ongoing partnership with Many Minds Link, who are helping DAPA create accessible tech platforms that empower people with disabilities to build skills in areas like data entry, programming and web development.

    Special thanks to participating artists and to our dedicated art educators Ms. Jennifer Yu and Ms. Siu Ying Chen, whose encouragement and mentorship have made this exhibition possible.
